Additional Resources

Once you’ve taken all the immediate steps (generally within the first 24 hours), here are additional actions you can take to not only broaden the search for your pet, but also get others to help look for them as well.

The most important thing to keep in mind is to never give up. Many pets have come home safely weeks and months after being lost.

  • Alerting shelters and community agencies that pick up stray animals
  • Contact area rescue groups: dogs, cats, birds, horses, small animals.
  • Reach out to local businesses, especially pet-related businesses
  • Submit ads to local papers
  • Call local television stations to see if they sponsor lost pet public service announcements

Register on the available message boards and Internet databases – note that some of these have fees associated with their services:Consider hiring a pet detective, or a neighborhood AVR service

Keep updating your pet’s status in the log that is part of your pet’s My Pet Street Lost Pet poster. Your community can then see what additional help they can provide you in searching for your pet and getting them back safely to you.
