Convenient for us, toxic to them

Here's an example of something that, while hugely convenient to us in our busy lives, is deadly to the wildlife around us.

PCFs, or Perfluorinated compounds, break down into PFOS, or perflurooctane sulphonate. These chemicals are the key ingredients in non-stick pans and stain-resistant fabrics, as well as some hair products and deep fried fast food. When PFOS hits the water, even the lowest concentrations can depress the immune systems of threatened loggerhead turtles and bottlenose dolphins and damage their livers.

This article gives us some food for thought on what is the right balance for convenience for us versus threatening the wildlife around us.
