Do chinchillas like to live in pairs?
A long time ago my neighbors had chinchillas and told us that you have to buy them in pairs or they will get depressed and die. I wonder if this is true.

Pairing vs. single chinchilla
Chinchillas do really well in pairs. Single chinchilla really do tend to get very lonely. It might be best to get two females at a very young age because they will be friends for life. You can also try to get an older female and young female, usually the older one will mother the younger one. Two males might tend to fight and this could result in a fight to the death....
